Mini Matinée
Who Is the Best Elf?
Musical puppet show

Have you ever heard of Csermely and Ardó, the two mischievous forest elves? This is your chance to finally get to meet them, as well as to consider how the lives of elves are not so different from our own. While they experience similar difficulties and joys, now they are facing a truly remarkable challenge that has put their friendship to the test. Although this musical puppet show is structured around a competition, only at the end of the performance does it become clear which is more important: winning the trophy or loving each other.

This new show is the result of an old and, we can safely say, fruitful collaboration: the graduating students of the Keleti István School of the Arts will once again get the opportunity to demonstrate to viewers young and old alike the results of the progress they have made with their teachers this year. The young puppeteers are in the safest of hands: the musical puppet show Who Is the Best Elf? was written by Károly Szívós and directed by Ágnes Török. Both of them prominent members of Hungary's puppet theatre community, they are the founders of the Kolibri Theatre and, no less importantly, can boast several decades of teaching experience. It is their avowed objection to help young people understand what it means to think like a puppeteer and how to transfer all of their emotions into a physical object or figure. Rounding out the team is puppet designer Erzsébet Csonka, with the music for the production a credit to the collective efforts of the youngsters involved. The playful and witty competition conducted openly between protagonists Csermely and Ardó is made complete with mischievous humour and lessons in the importance of basic human values. Of course, everything has to end happily this time too, and even the smallest members of the audience will come to understand why good friends exist.
